MEET KAYLA

Working with children, teenagers, and young adults who feel lost, unheard, or unsure of who they are, and watching them find their footing, is the most meaningful thing I've ever done.

I built Courage Over Comfort around that belief, and every session, every small breakthrough, every moment a young person realizes they are more capable than they thought, is exactly why I show up the way I do.

I've always known this is where I belong.

I’ve always believed that when young people feel truly safe, they become capable of things that surprise even them.

I started Courage Over Comfort because I kept seeing the same thing: children, teenagers, and young adults who were carrying more than they should have to, often without the words to explain it and without adults who knew how to hold it with them. I didn’t want to be another provider on a list. I wanted to build a practice where the work actually went somewhere.

I didn't want to just treat symptoms. I wanted to understand what was driving them. That's what led me to specialize in trauma-informed care for children, teens, and young adults, and why I built a practice that starts with safety, not just skills.

“Healing happens through connection, consistency, and the courage to face what feels hard.”

I believe children, adolescents, and young adults deserve a space where pain can be understood without judgment, and where healing feels possible even after difficult experiences.

HOW I WORK

We don't start by jumping into what's wrong. We start by slowing down enough to notice what's happening. In the body, in the patterns, in the moments right before things fall apart.

For a child, that might look like using movement, games, or creative activities to explore feelings they don't yet have words for. For a teen, it might mean building enough trust first that the real conversation can actually happen. For a young adult, it often looks like connecting the dots between what they're feeling now and patterns that started long before they walked into a session.

Every session is different because every person is different. But the thread that runs through all of it is the same, we move at a pace that feels manageable, we build on what's already strong, and we don't skip the hard parts.

What actually happens in a session

WHAT I BELIEVE IN

The beliefs that shape every session

01

Behavior is communication.

A meltdown, a shutdown, a wall going up, these aren't problems to fix. They're messages to decode. When I understand what a behavior is communicating, I can actually help. That's where we start.

02

Confidence is built through courage.

Not the other way around. Waiting to feel ready before trying something hard is the one thing that keeps people stuck. We practice courage in small, supported steps.

03

Great things never come from comfort zones.

Growth asks something of us. I hold space for that discomfort in a way that feels safe enough to actually try.

04

Everyone deserves to find their voice.

Not just to express feelings, but to advocate for their own needs, in their relationships, in school, and eventually in the world.
